Why the Tempest? 17 Feb, 24 March, 21 April, 9 May 2026

An opportunity for deep listening and reflection: our upcoming Shakespeare and Religion lecture seriesWhy The Tempest? — The Play in Christian Perspective.

This series explores The Tempest through the lens of Christian theology, prayer, fear, and forgiveness, and includes:

  • Tuesday 17 February (2–4pm) — Be Not Afear’d… An Introduction to The Tempest
  • Tuesday 24 March (2–4pm) — With the Help of Your Good Hands: Prayer in The Tempest
  • Tuesday 21 April (2–4pm) — The Tempest and the Art of Forgiveness
  • Saturday 9 May (10am–6pm) — a full Study Day, with lectures, discussion, music, and refreshments

Whether through scripture, story, conversation, or theatre, these weeks invite us to slow down, listen well, and ask again what it means to live wisely and generously in a complex world.

As we keep returning to that central question — what is a good life? — perhaps the invitation before us is simple, and demanding: to choose closeness over certainty, relationship over distance, and love over being right.

With every blessing,

Ruth
